Schools, Local Authorities and Professionals

Supporting vulnerable children and young people may require more than individual therapy and can often mean working with the wider network around them. We provide specialist input to schools, Local Authorities, care homes and professionals, offering a trauma-informed, systemic approach that helps young people feel safe, understood and better supported.

Whether we're supporting a student at risk of exclusion, consulting on a complex case or helping a team embed therapeutic thinking, we approach every partnership with care, clarity and collaboration.

School-based interventions & Alternative provision

We work directly with mainstream and alternative education settings, as well as parents, carers and social care teams, to create bespoke packages of support for students struggling in school environments.

Our work includes:

  • Tailored school-based interventions for students requiring support for emotional regulation, behaviour or trauma.
  • Alternative provision development for children at risk of exclusion or disengagement.
  • 1:1 therapeutic work within schools or in collaboration with external professionals.
  • Systemic approaches to strengthen relationships between school, home and care settings.

We understand the pressures schools face and work flexibly to create realistic, effective interventions that benefit both the young person and those working with them.

Edge of Care & Child Protection

We offer targeted therapeutic support for families on the edge of care, subject to Child in Need or Child Protection Plans, where early, focused intervention can make a critical difference. Our aim is to prevent care proceedings by strengthening family systems, reducing risk and helping everyone involved understand and respond to the needs of the child more effectively.

This work includes:

  • Direct therapeutic interventions with parents and carers to support emotional regulation, attachment and parenting under stress.
  • Crisis-focused work designed to stabilise family dynamics and prevent escalation to care proceedings.
  • Specialist input to help professionals assess family needs and develop realistic, trauma-informed plans.
  • Collaborative working with social workers, schools and other services to ensure joined-up, purposeful support.

By addressing root causes and building on family strengths, we support families to move out of crisis and towards greater safety, connection and long-term stability.

Professional Consultation

We offer expert consultation to professionals working with children and families, particularly those impacted by trauma, loss and attachment difficulties.

This includes:

  • Case consultation for social workers, SENCOs, school staff and care teams
  • Systemic consultation to improve outcomes for children in care or at risk
  • Support in designing and reviewing care, education or therapeutic plans
  • Reflective spaces to help professionals explore complex dynamics in their work

Our goal is to offer insight and clarity that empowers professionals to better understand and respond to the children they support.

Training

We provide bespoke training sessions for schools, local authorities, foster care teams and other professionals, with a focus on trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice.

Training topics include:

  • Understanding trauma and its impact on behaviour
  • Attachment theory in practice
  • Supporting children with complex needs in the classroom or care environment
  • Therapeutic approaches in everyday settings
  • Building emotionally safe systems for high-risk children and young people

Training can be delivered in-person or online, as one-off sessions or part of a broader package of support.

At Luminous Minds Therapy, we believe in joined-up working - we know that real change happens when schools, families, professionals and services work together. We’re here to be a bridge, supporting you with the insight, tools and therapeutic thinking needed to help vulnerable young people thrive.
