Children and Adolescents

(from 5 to 18 years old)

At Luminous Minds Therapy, we work flexibly to meet the needs of children and their families. By creating bespoke treatment plans, we ensure high quality, tailored services and interventions

Our work focuses on creating safe, judgement-free spaces where young people can explore their emotional landscape, knowing that someone has their back.

We believe that by tackling barriers and getting school right, we can support young people to be their most creative and freethinking selves.

Working closely with families, schools and professionals, we support children at risk of exclusion, those with trauma histories and complex emotional needs.

We are specialists in working with children and young people who have been through difficult life experiences and who have been in contact with or are waiting to be seen by CAMHS, Social Care and Youth Offending Teams.

We provide both long and short term work as well as crisis support. The therapies we offer to children and adolescents include:

Educational Psychotherapy: Overcoming barriers to learning through addressing emotional and psychological needs at school or college. Our approach is based in attachment and psychoanalytic theories as ways to explore unconscious processes.

Creative Therapies: Using art and play-based methods such as games, craft and sand play for primary school-aged children, for example, to help them express emotions, process experiences and build coping skills in a non-verbal, developmentally appropriate way.

EMDR Trauma Therapy: Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming (EMDR) is a specialist, evidence-based approach to working with trauma.

Group Therapy: Establishing a supportive environment for young people to learn from each other, developing coping strategies and social skills.
